Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography
Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique which allows visualisation of the epidermis and the dermis.

LC-OCT uses a focused line of light (a laser) and a line-scan camera to generate high resolution images of skin layers up to 0.4mm deep.
The images show cellular level structures of the skin in excellent detail, allowing for easy, non-invasive diagnosis of suspicious lesions.

These scans can be used to diagnose BCCs, thereby replacing the need for biopsies and reducing the time for diagnosis.
It is also useful for mapping mapping the margins of areas requiring excising, which avoids removing too much or too little.
